Appreciate these thoughts.

Someday I’m going to get to see your art in person.

Thanks for introducing me to the concept of “kenotic imagination”, Mako. I am particularly struck by “the deepest theological wound the play diagnoses…the inability to release the fiction of success even as it destroys you. The incapacity for kenosis is the incapacity for transformation.” It’s been probably 15 years since I saw Death of a Salesman — I want to revisit it with your insights in mind.

This is so beautiful. It makes me think of something Simone Weil wrote - I’m paraphrasing - but it was something about how we have to desire without desiring the end of that desire. To simply be in the desire - seems to be close to kenosis? Maybe? Thank you for this moving essay about an art form I’ve devoted my life to.

Dear Mako, Haejin and you were probably the only two to experience the kenosis you so elegantly write about. Grace and peace, Mike Brenan

Thank you for your timely thoughts. Now I need to buy your new book so I can work through this beautiful concept of kenotic imagination. God has certainly granted you great insight into the needs of our day.
